SUPERDIST was one of the first online music distributors that made use of “referral marketing” networks through peer-to-peer technology. SuperDist leveraged this system to let the market set the dollar value for music. Variable rate prices for each track were set based on the number of user referrals and on the level of promotion (such as reviews) a user dedicate to a song. For each track promoted and referred to a buyer, a royalty on the sale price would be shared with the user.
